Most mods for beta 1.7.3 are jar mods, which means that you use the Add to Minecraft Jar button in the Edit Instance window, Version tab. The exception is Forge mods like IC2 or Buildcraft for example. My opinions: With this pack I think beta 1.7.3 is the most stable, complete, and greatest version minus tall grass, especially with a few tweaks/fixes that I listed above. Also, if you put the Alpha pack on and change your settings it really just feels like you are playing Alpha, but with some new cool features.
